About
Through her work
She explores her subject, light in it's many disguise using different elements to distort and fragment the image.
The Artist
Born in Germany in 1977 but grew up in the UK. Studied at Chelsea College of Art and Design (1996-1997), Wimbledon School of Art and Design (1998-2001) and continues to live in London.
She creates high contrast photographs of flowers, everyday objects and portraits to capture a moment in time. Exploring use of texture, colour and tones to express the emotions she is conveying. Light, geometric patterns with use of positive and negative space are recurring themes throughout her work. Using everyday familiar objects the viewer can connect. The use of light, juxtaposing another unlikely object or tightly cropping of the composition fragments the image giving an abstract quality.
Studying in London during Britpop movement and the climax of Young British Art (YBAs) was a phase of her life, which gave her exposure to intense time in the London art scene.
Art history has always been important to the artist as a key role in her development from Jeff Koon use of bright colours and material with its highly reflective surface. Cindy Sherman, Film Stills with her us of narrative. Francesca Woodman refreshing experimental qualities to her work. And the pure beauty of Henri Cartier Bresson black and white photographs, a single frame capturing a moment in time.
It is all about the image
Her work coming from combination of layering of wide and varied visual influences and her life experience and interaction, which she tries to pair-back to simpler form. In some instances there is a lack of narrative that gives space to allow basic feelings from form, colour and tone.
For the artist, art is in a constant state of change. She gets great pleasure consuming art equal to creating her own work. She enjoys the escapism art gives her and safe zone to experience thing she would not do in real life. Standing in front of Damien Hirst, The Physical Impossibility of Death in the Mind of Someone Living, 1991 experiencing being that close to a tiger shark, confronting fear head on.
She is fortunate to live in London and when travelling she get to see some of the great old master pieces and contemporary new emerging artists both of which she has huge respect for. She treats viewing art as a luxury.
Art is a passion, which she respects and protects and her artwork is her journey of balance and exploration.
